The NFL offseason always creates optimism, but only a handful of teams realistically enter the year as true Super Bowl contenders.

Heading into the 2026-27 season, several franchises stand above the rest because of elite quarterback play, strong rosters and organizational stability. While injuries and surprises will eventually reshape the league, the early favorites for Super Bowl LXI are already beginning to separate themselves.
Here are the teams with the best chance to win the Super Bowl in 2027.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams have emerged as one of the early favorites across multiple sportsbooks entering the season. Much of that confidence comes from their loaded roster and aggressive offseason moves, including the addition of star pass rusher Myles Garrett.
Even with Matthew Stafford getting older, Sean McVay continues to keep the Rams among the NFL’s elite offensive teams. The combination of veteran leadership, star power and playoff experience makes Los Angeles one of the most complete rosters in football.
The biggest question will be health. The Rams are talented enough to win it all, but injuries have repeatedly impacted their championship chances in recent years.
Buffalo Bills
At some point, the Buffalo Bills have to break through.
Josh Allen remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous quarterbacks, and Buffalo continues to stay near the top of Super Bowl odds every season. Many analysts believe this could finally be the year the Bills balance explosive offense with enough defensive consistency to make a championship run.
The pressure surrounding Buffalo is massive. Fans are tired of playoff heartbreak, especially against Kansas City, but the roster is still talented enough to compete with anyone in the league.
Baltimore Ravens
As long as Lamar Jackson is healthy, the Baltimore Ravens will remain contenders.
Baltimore once again enters the year with one of the NFL’s most balanced teams. Their defense remains physical and aggressive, while Jackson continues to create problems no defense fully solves. Early odds place the Ravens near the top of the AFC alongside Buffalo.
The biggest criticism surrounding Baltimore is familiar — postseason consistency. The Ravens have regularly looked dominant in the regular season, only to fall short in January.
Still, few teams possess their combination of coaching stability, quarterback play and defensive talent.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles remain firmly in the championship conversation.
Philadelphia continues to build around one of the league’s strongest overall rosters, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts and a dominant offensive line. Even after recent playoff success, sportsbooks still view the Eagles as one of the NFC’s most dangerous teams.
Their biggest strength may be organizational depth. The Eagles consistently reload through the draft while maintaining one of the NFL’s deepest rosters.
As long as Hurts stays healthy, Philadelphia should remain a legitimate Super Bowl threat.
Kansas City Chiefs
It would be foolish to count out the Kansas City Chiefs while Patrick Mahomes is still under center.
Kansas City may not enter the year as the betting favorite, but Mahomes and Andy Reid have earned the benefit of the doubt after years of postseason dominance. Some sportsbooks actually list several teams ahead of the Chiefs entering 2027, which feels unusual considering their recent dynasty.
Whenever the Chiefs appear slightly overlooked, they usually become even more dangerous.
The roster may not be as dominant as previous versions, but Kansas City still possesses the most feared quarterback in football.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions are no longer viewed as underdogs.
After multiple strong seasons, Detroit has officially entered the league’s top tier of contenders. Dan Campbell has completely transformed the culture, and the Lions now combine toughness, explosiveness and confidence better than almost anyone in the NFC.
Their offense remains one of the NFL’s most dangerous units, and improvements on defense could be what finally pushes Detroit into Super Bowl territory.
For a franchise that spent decades searching for relevance, the expectations have completely changed.
Dark Horse Teams to Watch
A few additional teams could rise into the championship conversation with strong starts:
- Houston Texans
- Green Bay Packers
- Los Angeles Chargers
- San Francisco 49ers
- Seattle Seahawks
